The island of a thousand contrasts
Mykonos, one of the best known islands in the world and with the least Greek pace of life ever!
Useful information
The collective imagination that the world has of Greece is enclosed in just 85km2; the symbol of the island are the windmills that dominate the capital from the hill.
We are in the Cyclades region, on a small island in the mythical sea of the Gods, the Aegean Sea, with a population of just over 10,000 inhabitants.
Yet here during the summer parties and exclusive parties known all over the world take place that last from the afternoon to the next morning with internationally renowned DJs.
Although exaggerated in its follies, in its transgressions and above all in ... prices, Mykonos hardly disappoints those who are attracted by the nightlife but not even those in search of a romantic place, perhaps for the latter, it would be better to avoid the month of August!
Obviously Mykonos is not an island for penniless young people looking for cheap drinks, it is a chic, elegant and even a little snobbish destination, with design hotels and exclusive villas reviewed in architecture magazines from all over the world!
In any case, what tourism hasn't managed to change, at least not entirely, is the beauty of its landscapes that will remain forever in your hearts, just be awake during the day, rent a scooter and go on an adventure!
The beaches not to be missed
Paradise and Superparadise, beautiful as scenery but where you cannot find tranquility given the parties that take place at all hours of the day and night 7 days a week.
Psarou, white sand, loved by VIPs; Agios Ioannis, half rocky and half sandy, is located on the west coast; Ornos, sandy, organized and convenient for its services; Agios Sostis, a bit difficult to reach, beautiful and wild; Houlakia, windy and uncrowded.
What to see in Mykonos
Surely Mykonos Town is worth half a day, its labyrinthine alleys are splendid with traditional white houses with blue, red and sometimes green fixtures; everywhere refined little shops and tasty hidden taverns. The very suggestive orthodox church of Panagia Paraportiani; a walk on the always crowded promenade; numerous small museums, art galleries and exhibitions; the Naval Museum of the Aegean and the Archaeological Museum; the sunset seen from the Mulini hill and immediately after an aperitif by the sea in the characteristic Little Venice district.
