Common description
We are in the Argolis region to discover its treasures.
Nauplio, a picturesque seaside town, was also the first capital of modern Greece when on 3 December 1822 it was freed from the Ottoman yoke.
Situated at the foot of two fortresses, Palamidi and Acronafplia, it has about 33,000 inhabitants; lively and elegant, Nafplio combines Venetian echoes, oriental suggestions and typically Greek features.
In its beautiful old town you will find fishermen's houses, neoclassical buildings, panoramic views, boutiques and green areas. There is everything you need to fill up on emotions.
According to mythology, Nafplio was named after its founder, son of the sea god Poseidon.
In the area we also find the suggestive archaeological site of Mycenae, seat of the tomb of Agamemnon with the Lion's Gate, the Cyclopean Walls and the Royal Tombs.
