The middle peninsula of Chalkidika
It is the middle peninsula of Halkidiki, full of picturesque marinas, sandy beaches, lush expanses and coastal settlements. Perhaps the most spectacular in terms of nature, beaches and landscapes.
Sithonia, a wonderful territory that extends into the Aegean Sea, a succession of fascinating gulfs, beautiful beaches and picturesque traditional villages, the circumnavigation of the peninsula measures approximately 130 km of panoramic roads almost always with a sea view!
If you go into the hinterland you will find dense coniferous forests and dozens of small traditional mountain villages that are also worth a visit for their remote taverns where you can eat divinely. The highest peak, Mount Itamos reaches 753 meters.
From Thessaloniki airport to the town of Nikiti which is located at the beginning of the Peninsula, it is approximately 90 km which can be easily covered by car which is the recommended way to get around and change beaches every day!
Sithonia is the ideal destination for couples, family holidays and for all those looking for a relaxing and peaceful holiday in symbiosis with nature. For lovers of trekking or cycling, don't miss the ride on the crest of Mount Itamos among forests and pine forests up to the top which offers a breathtaking view of the bay and the entire Chalkidiki peninsula. Without forgetting that the Sithonia peninsula holds some of the most beautiful beaches of fine, white sand in all of Greece!
From Nea Moudianà an asphalt road leads to Olynthos, where there are the remains of the Athenian colony of the same name, and to Gerakini, with the beautiful sandy beach, the Italian waters and the large and modern hotel facilities. After the detour that leads to the picturesque town of Ormylia, there are the villages of Metamorphosi and Nikita, with wonderful beaches full of pine trees. From Nikita beach the chimneys and red roofs of the old houses stand out; In the surrounding area, the early Christian churches of the 5th century are of particular interest.
And the wandering among the beauties of Sithonia continues: Aghios Nikolaos, located in an area rich in vegetation, Pyrgadikia, with its insular aspect and view of Mount Athos, Vourvourou and Ormos Panayas, with the enchanting coves and moored fishing boats. Followed by the villages of Sarti, Sykia, Porto Kouphò, Neos Marmaras. Everywhere natural marinas, serenity, beauty, boats, gulets and spread nets. On a promontory - on the site of ancient Toroni - there are the remains of the ancient fortification, which dates from antiquity to the Byzantine period, and also those of early Christian basilicas. On the western coast extends the extraordinary holiday resort of Porto Karras (1800 hectares), together with the private vineyards of the same name, the largest in Europe.
