Common description

The small village of Delphi

Delphi is located about 2.5 hours from Athens, on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. It was one of the most important locations in ancient Greece and was famous throughout the world for being the center of the Earth.
In fact, the most important oracle of the god Apollo (also known as the oracle of Delphi) was located there. The sanctuary is square in shape and unfortunately in ruins due to time, but some monumental statues can still be distinguished. On the portal that accesses the sanctuary it is possible to notice a Greek writing on the architrave which means "know thyself".
Right in the area before the sanctuary there is the limestone theater from the 4th century BC. C. Not far from the theater is the stadium where the Olympics once took place. Also not to be missed is the archaeological site of Delphi, which contains an essential part of the history of ancient Greece.
The museum contains many of the works found during the excavations, including statues of sphinxes or charioteers and other finds including helmets, vases, coins, jewels. In the 12th century BC. C. The Greeks came to Delphi to ask advice from Pithia, the most famous oracle of antiquity. The oracle was a woman who was believed to have received prophetic powers from the god Apollo. A path allows you to get through the site to the ruins of the Temple.
Modern Delphi is located at the foot of the archaeological site.
The historic center is characterized by picturesque cobbled streets, outdoor cafes, traditional taverns and souvenir shops. It is pleasant to walk through the streets of Delphi, immersing yourself in the vibrant atmosphere and charm of the place.
