Common description
The westernmost point of Greece
Le Diapontie, small paradises where time has stopped and life flows peacefully! They are the most western point of Greece.
Three islands, rocks and a primitive sea, without crowds even in summer.
The Diapontie are located northwest of Corfu.
There are 11 islands, of which only 3 are inhabited.
• OTHONI | 11 sq km and approximately 392 inhabitants
Steep and rocky coasts, crystal clear waters. On the west coast there is the beautiful beach of Aspri Ammos ("white beach") and the Cave of Calypso, the place where legend has it that Ulysses was bewitched and held prisoner for 7 years by the nymph Calypso.
The highest point on the island Megalo Merovigli reaches 400 m high. The capital is Ammos, where the main port is also located.
In Othoni there are a few roads - only one asphalted - that lead to the main towns. The road that climbs towards the characteristic village of Chorio is steep and winding. There are no buses or taxis but the island is small enough to be visited by scooter or on foot.
• MATRAKI | 3.1 km2 and approximately 186 inhabitants
The island is very green with cypresses and olive trees, uncontaminated and wild nature. Its highest mountain reaches just 150 m. The west coast is rocky and jagged, while the east coast has a long sandy beach.
The capital is Kato Matraki and not far away the main port is in Plakes. A road goes around the island, there are no buses, traffic is non-existent. The inhabitants are fishermen and olive growers, with only a few taverns.
• ERIKOUSSA | 4.5 km2 and approximately 496 inhabitants
The most populous of the archipelago, its name derives from the heather bushes ("riki" in Greek). The island is very flat, it does not exceed 130 m. The highest hill can also be easily explored on foot.
There are only 6 small inhabited centers and in the southern part there is the town of Porto, an area of vast sandy expanse with very clear and shallow sea. Walking through Erikoussa you will find some traditional windmills, while in Agia Triada there is a beautiful church with a bell tower carved in stone.
A two-day festival involving locals and tourists is held on August 15th.
Small churches are found in various locations, but in addition to the beautiful beaches, the best thing to do in Erikoussa is to enjoy contact with nature in absolute tranquility!
More information, useful advice and curiosities in the travel documents that will be sent before departure.
