Common description
Xylokastro is a town located on the north-eastern coast of the Peloponnese. Overlooking the Gulf of Corinth, the name comes from a nearby wooden castle/barracks that housed soldiers during the Venetian rule.
The current town, which has 15,500 inhabitants, is a popular seaside destination for national tourism with numerous hotels, shops, taverns and cafes.
The seafront is characterized by a scenic cycling path that also passes through one of its most famous points of interest, the Pefkias Forest, a protected natural area that extends along the coast, perfect for walking and outdoor activities. Xylokastro also boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage, with Byzantine churches and traditions linked to Greek culture.
