Common description
'Zante' , Zacinto or Zakynthos is the island of turtles and the famous beach of the Shipwreck!
Long sandy beaches, coves, caves, crystalline blue, notes of sirtaki, echoes of distant cultures and breathtaking sunsets: Zakynthos is a natural paradise of rare beauty. It is one of the best known and most admired destinations in the whole Mediterranean.
Zakynthos is a very green island, its environment is characterized by imposing cliffs overlooking the sea, cloaked in woods and wide flat expanses. The island offers a wide choice of types of fine sandy beaches, beaches accessible only from the sea (where you can find peace and relaxation even in high season), fjords and coves ideal for snorkelers.
In the North East of the island there are pebble beaches and crystal clear sea such as Makris Gialos and Xigia, renowned for its sulphurous waters.
In the Central East of the island there are beaches of fine sand and equipped: this is the case of Alykes / Alikanas Beach, Amoudi Beach, Paradise Beach, Gaitharos Beach, Ambula Beach and Tsilivi Beach.
In the South East of the island - along the Vasilikós peninsula - there are long equipped sandy beaches, the most famous being Porto Zoro, Banana Beach, Agios Nikolaos and Porto Roma. Continuing south, two of the most beautiful beaches, on the right Daphni Beach (the stretch of sea that bathes this beach is the hottest of the whole island) and on the tip of the peninsula Gerakas Beach. Both are part of the Protected Marine Park, where the rare Caretta Caretta turtles live and lay their eggs between May and September.
In the south of the island - along the Gulf of Turtles - it is possible to relax in Capo Marathia among small rocky coves, in Limni Keri, in Agios Sostis, in Laganas, the most dynamic and commercial beach of the island (recommended for young people) and Kalamaki , a beautiful beach with crystal clear sea and in some places almost deserted even in August.
In the North West of the island, instead, the Limionas, Porto Roxa, Porto Stenitis and Porto Vromi fjords. Continuing north, you can see the famous Navágio (or Shipwreck) Beach from above, so named for the wreck of a merchant ship lying on this beach, the most picturesque and photographed in all of Greece.
Zakynthos is waiting to be discovered and never forgotten!
