Common description
The Peloponnese is a region of Greece famous for its history but also for its enchanting and very long beaches. In the Achaea area, 45 km south of Patras, there is an area of unique and wild beauty, the dunes of Kalogria with its endless beach (9km) of golden sand and a crystal clear sea that slopes gently, a place ideal for those who want sea and nature!
Impressive are the imposing sand dunes sculpted by the wind which are worth climbing to admire the view of the Ionian Sea and the Strofylia forest.
We are inside the Kotychi – Strofylia Wetland National Park which, with an extension of 2,200 hectares, is the largest pine forest in Greece!
Lagoons, marshes, numerous natural canals, all surrounded by wonderfully scented Aleppo pines, stone pines, pear trees, almond trees, oaks, ash trees and turpentine trees which give shelter to many animals such as foxes, weasels, turtles and tortoises as well as numerous species of birds such as egrets, hoopoes, turtle doves, glossy ibises, swallows and many others.
The beach together with the forest, its inhabitants and the lagoons of Prokopos, Papa, Kotychi, Lake Lamia and the Mavra Vouna mountains constitute a unique ecosystem protected by the Ramsar Convention and is part of the Natura 2000 network of EU interest.
